September 8, 08 HBOlab

I haven't posted to this blog in quite awhile. I set it up in the spring (08) for two reasons...1. to figure out how to set up a blog (it was easy), 2. to communicate with the Cal State Northridge students I spoke to at a TV Academy Mentoring class.

The blog was originally meant for students and creative types who need some insight to the entertainment business.  As people are finding my blog, however, I might be confusing those who are trying to connect with my job as a consultant to HBOlab.

So,  as HBOlab is getting some press on our new web series I thought I would post again.

We received some press today in the Hollywood Reporter announcing our new series, Hooking Up http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/technology/news/e3ie53ddac733c873ccd4df754fc7b4af4b

It was a nice article as the reporter, Andy Wallenstein always keeps on top of our current pursuits and experiments at HBOlab.

With the press comes questions about our ongoing mission at HBOlab and I received quite a bit of inquiry today.  Mostly,  people want to know if we are interested in content ideas or collaboration.

Sadly, at this time the answer is no. We are such a small group with a singular mission of experimentation rather than the more obvious content creation. We exist to explore web opportunities and develop some limited concepts so that HBO has a creative and credible hand in the game of new media.

Submissions that manage to get to me at HBO or through this blog will be sent to the unsolicited submissions desk at HBO (which is such a sad and lonely place). I promise that we have to do that to protect ourselves from someone suggesting that I stole the idea for the John Adams miniseries after getting an email about the premise!!

I am happy to communicate on other topics, however.  Just help me out and don't submit any creative ideas, please!!!

Thanks!

FS
